Antonio Walker, president of FEDEFRUTA commented the good performance of this fruit regarding production and market: "We expect an historical rise in produced and exported volumes. First of all we had the weather on our side, which is fundamental for the cherry crop. So we got good fruit quality, good size and good yield. This year we can reach 14,000,000 boxes, compared to 11,500,000 a maximum of in the past".

Claudio Vergara, businessman and production manager for Viveros Rancagua, added: “In production terms, we had a smaller amount of fruit this year, which meant a better quality fruits”.
According to market data, by week 52, Chilean cherry exports rose by 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 57,196 tons. The main contribution was given by the increase in exports to the Far East, growing by 46% with 34,624 tons, and - in a smaller extent - by the growth in Latin America and Middle East, that respectively grew by 19.1% and 17.4%.
