22/02/2012 13:44The application, signed by Andalusian authorities and the mayor of Granada himself, as well as by the heads of some associations involved in typical local agricultural production, was presented at Nuremberg on February 17, during Biofach, by EcoArea Spain through the CEO Romano Ugolini.
Then on Monday, Feb. 20, we also had meeting in Barcelona with the managers of the wholesale market Mercabarna and then with a representative of the Port of Barcelona to check the time and manner of an application from the Catalan capital.
On our website an opnion poll is still going on, which will end later this month, where our readers can express their preference about the location. The decision on the venue will be made not later than the second half of March. The only thing we can say today is that the less likely venue appears to be, at the moment, Madrid.
The themes which the Forum will consider are also being analyzed in these days: most probably we will talk about a Mediterranean mark for olive oil. Then the state-of-the-art and the prospects of some fruit and veg products will be presented and, most interesting, the relation between the Mediterranean Region as a supplier and Eastern Europe and Russia as great consumption basin. Final topics will be better defined by the first half of April.
The Green Med Forum is the annual itinerant three day conference focused on the agricultural economy of the Mediterranean Region, with specific sessions on the marketing, promotion and logistics of fruits and vegetables and other typical Mediterranean products such as citrus fruits, olive oil, organic produce.
The initiative was launched in 2004 by our Italian editorial group with the support of the CIHEAM (the Consortium of Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, based in Paris whose network is also in Italy-Bari. Spain-Zaragoza and France-Montpellier), and, during the start –up phase, also UNIDO, the UN organization for economic development. The previous editions of the Forum took place in Koper (Slovenia), Alexandria, Rome and Tunis.
