Fruit Logistica 2010, taking place from February 3 to 5, underscored its position as a leading global trade fair for the fresh produce sector with a comprehensive overview of the market, the presence of all key decision makers in the industry, and a record number of exhibitors and visitors. From 3 to 5 February 53,000 visitors (+6%) from 130 countries gathered information at the most important trade event for the international fruit and vegetable world (2009: 50,000 from 125 countries).

Quality criteria for the three-day fair included its international scope and the presence of top-ranking managers and industry representatives with high level decision-making authority, the organizers said. Statements from exhibitors and visitors highlighted the excellent contacts with wholesalers and retailers, fruit and vegetable producers and import/export businesses. Setting a new record, 2,302 exhibitors from 71 countries (2009: 2,283/78) attended. 89 per cent of the exhibitors at this year's trade fair came from outside Germany.

According to Dr. Christian Göke, COO Messe Berlin GmbH: "Fruit Logistica is clearly a premium product for Messe Berlin. Hardly any other industry worldwide has a trade fair with such an indisputable market leadership position as Fruit Logistica. This is where all trading partners across the global value chain come together".

On February 5 the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award (FLIA) was given to ART – Arils Removal Tool, a simple and clever tool for pitting pomegranates made by Israeli company Mehadrin Tnuport Export. As pomegranates have become very popular in recent years, the Arils Removal Tool provides a simple and innovative solution for pitting this very healthy fruit and can be used anywhere. The shape and size of the ART are reminiscent of a lemon press. The tool comprises a bowl to catch the seeds, a grid and a flexible silicone dome.

The Dutch company HZPC ranked second with its new line of potatoes, marketed under the Pommonde® brand, while Italian Unitec ranked third with its  QS_300© device, portable instrument for monitoring and measuring the internal quality of a wide range of fruit and vegetables.
