This is an important event for the Italian pear cultivation, which holds the leadership in the world production, as it averages 860,000 tonnes per year. Steady, facing an European production of 2,500,000 tonnes. The cradle of the world for pear production is set in the region between Ferrara, Modena and Bologna, and this conference will be an excellent opportunity for international guests to get in touch with domestic pear production.

On May 27 in the morning the Conference will start with the presentation of a study conducted by the University of Bologna, which compares the cost of production of pears in Europe by analyzing in detail the costs in major producing countries.

The main players from the major Countries involved in the production and marketing of pears (Italy, Argentina, Belgium, Holland, France and Spain) will be called to comment on the data. Also in the first day the figures on pear consumption in Europe and worldwide will be presented.

During the afternoon there will be technical visits to fruit plants around Ferrara, and the first day will end with a gala dinner for the participants.

In the morning of May 28, the pear players will present their comments and remarks about the 2009-2010 marketing season, with anticipation of forecasted summer production in the southern hemisphere.

Comments on marketing trends in South America will follow, along with the CSO forecasts as for pear supply in the short and long term in Europe and globally, as well as for the search for new markets.

Interpera 2010 will be an important opportunity to take stock of a cultivation and a market that are still offering good economic potential for producers despite the crisis.
