08/03/2010 11:41The meeting between Catalonia Qualitat, the AOP (Association d'Organisations de Producteurs de Pêche et Nectarine de France) and the Italian CSO (Centro Servizi Ortofrutticoli) gathered around one only table in more than 50% of the European production of peaches and nectarines. They stressed their determination to effectively act market management for the coming season, also underlining the need of a fair income for all the actors of the sector.
AREFLH insisted on the risk of losing the European stone fruit production if the pressure of price decline at distribution will continue this summer. Considering the increasing abandonment of plantations in Italy and in France due to low prices in the previous campaign, Jacques Dasque, General Secretary of the AREFLH, underlined the risk that the European Union runs to lose an important part of the production of peach and nectarine.
The first of the actions defined was the preparation of the meeting in the frame of the Fruits and Vegetables Consultative Committee (Advisory Committe) of the Commission in Brussels, where these associations shall urge the European administration to include measures for in the production regulation to modify soon the CMO and to allow the market regulation by means of various mechanisms of management and prevention of crisis.
