Three major Catalan companies working in the fresh produce industry are negotiating the creation of a new company specializing in apples, pears and stone fruit, capable of producing 100,000 tons of produce a year. The three companies are the Consortium of Girona apple PGI (Poma de Girona), apple producer Fruits de Ponent and Cooperative Albatarra, specializing in stone fruit.

"We want to create a multiproduct company which can offer together apples, pears and stone fruit," said Venancio Grau of Poma de Girona. "We have an ongoing cooperation, but the idea is to create one single business in the future."
