Forecasts for this year say that the volumes of summer fruits grown in Tunisia will be stable at 607,000 tons, whereas the number of varieties cultivated in the Country is due to increase. More in detail, growth is expected for two atypical fruits for Tunisia: apples and pears, whose production is estimated at 126,000 and 65,000 tons respectively. On the other hand, this year Tunisia should produce 308,000 tons of citrus fruits, recording an increase by 4%, with 26,000 tons for export.

Potato production is expected to vary between 170,000 and 190,000 tons, while production of tomatoes is expected to exceed the threshold of one million tons this year.

Moreover, a feasibility project is under study to create an area exclusively dedicated to organic farming in Kerkennah Island. Organic farming is a growing industry in Tunisia and it offers great prospects for producers in the southern Mediterranean, as demand increases for organic products in several European countries.
