TURKEY CONFIRMED AS THE KING OF HAZELNUTS' EXPORTS
Turkey is confirmed as leading exporter of hazelnuts worldwide, with 206,032 tons exported in the latest season (Sept. 2009 - July 2010), for a total turnover of 1.29 billion USD. Germany is the main importer.

Turkey exported 206,032 tons of hazelnut earning 1.29 billion USD in the 11 month of 2009-2010 hazelnut export season which started on September 1, 2009.

According to the Black Sea Hazelnut & Products Exporters' Association, Turkey exported hazelnut to nearly 90 countries from September 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010, worldbulletin.net reports.

Turkey exported 154,241 tons of hazelnut to the European Union countries, 23,019 tons of hazelnut to other European countries, 18,309 tons of hazelnut to the overseas countries and 10,463 tons of hazelnut to the other countries. 

In the same period of the previous export season, Turkey exported 230,783 tons of hazelnut and gained 1.1 billion USD.

Germany is the leading importer of processed and unprocessed Turkish hazelnuts with a share of 27 percent of the total, followed by Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Russian Federation, Austria, the Netherlands, Ukraine and U.K. Far East, Latin American and Scandinavian Countries have emerged as potential markets for Turkish hazelnut.
