25/08/2010 17:59The Secretary General of ASAJA Murcia, Alfonso Gálvez Caravaca, said: "We are seriously concerned because so much rain is not good for crops, and the real effects are still to be determined. Our only hope is that it will stop raining."
ASAJA Murcia spokesman stressed that "the most affected area are Campo de Cartagena, Guadalentín Valley, the highlands and Huerta de Murcia. The bad weather is also causing a halt in the harvesting and marketing of vegetables destined for overseas markets, and this is a bad blow for the Murcian industry considering the economic crisis we are suffering."
Gálvez Caravaca estimated that the total losses in the agricultural sector in the Murcia region could amount 40 million euros, but he also specified that "if it will continue raining so strongly we can expect greater losses."
