28/02/2011 16:22The 9th edition of Expocitfresa - the main dedicated exhibition for Huelva’s strawberry and citrus sectors, gathering some 60 exhibitors and international and international buyers - was the appropriate framework to present to the market the strawberry harvesting robot by the Huelva company Agrobot. A practical demonstration was carried out during one of the parallel professional sessions.
The robot, which is already available in the market, costs between 100,000 and 200,000 euros, depending on its performance. “Since it allows saving 50% of production costs - according to Juan Bravo, manager of Agrobot - in two campaigns the investment could be recouped”.
One of its main features is that it can harvest some 10 hectares of strawberry plants every three days thanks to its 24 or 36 picking arms. Also, the strawberry comes already handled and packaged, so all warehouse processes are saved and the fruit can be delivered in a shorter time and higher quality to the final consumer.
