The mission was attended by the presidents of the two markets, Mr. Franco Frigo of MAAP and the newly-elected Mrs. Erminia Perbellini of Veronamercato (pictured, the only woman president of an Italian market), the CEO and MAAP wholesalers’ president Giancarlo Daniele with MAAP director Francesco Cera, Veronamercato Director Paolo Merci (pictured), the president of the wholesalers of Verona Bruno Graziano and some wholesalers such as Georgio Bighelli of Perusi srl of Verona.

The delegation visited the logistics area of Sveta Nedelija, north-west of Zagreb, where the platforms of the retail chains Spar, Mercator and Lidl are based and where they had a meeting with the fruit and vegetable purchasing manager of Spar Austria, currently booming in Croatia after the strenght acquired in Slovenia

.



In Zagreb they also visited the wholesale market of Veletrznica which hosts 120 companies. The management company also has control of the 22 neighborood markets of Zagreb. The delegation met with the Director Ing. Dubravko Jagar and some wholesalers including the leading seller of the main Croatian fruit and vegetable company AgroFructus, Marin Buj, connected with the local distribution giant, the chain Konzum.

Curiosity also raised the visit to Dolac, the traditional open air market for fruits and vegetables in the heart of Zagreb, lively and colorful.



In Rijeka the delegation visited the warehouses of Plodine, the second Croatian retail chain, strong of 69 stores, which from Rijeka distributes fruit and vegetables across the country. A meeting was held with the purchasing manager, Ing. Niko Vukić, which explained the current trade relations with Italy and the development possibilities in view of the entry of Croatia into the European Union, in one year exactly.

This was actually  the deeper meaning of the mission, to get to know the situation in the Croatian market on the eve of its entry in the EU in July 2013
